When we started building Shire we went by a different name. BuyUrSide. The name came from our theory that no one was on the side of the buyer.

We could not have been more wrong. We are a big believer in Charlie Munger's quote:

"Show me the incentives and I'll show you the outcome"

The more we studied the process the more nuanced it became. Most professionals (think agents, lawyers, mortgage brokers, etc) don't want to take advantage of home buyers. Yes, there are exceptions, but by and large it's good people trying to do good work.

The system is set up in such a way where professionals get paid when a transaction closes. This means that the greatest tension between buyers and professional advisers is the speed of a deal. Buyers want to take the time to thoroughly understand what they are getting and professionals want to do a good job so they can support the next customer.

How do you align everyone to win together?

We believe what is missing is a shared understanding of:

  • the condition of the property,
  • that is impartial,
  • highly accurate,
  • cost effective, and
  • fast.

We are focused on solving this problem.
